How to Live a Meaningful Life Through the Power of Intention

What is an intention? How do you form an intention? What is meaningful enough for us to live?
Let’s start with what an intention is not. It is not the buzz word of the day or beginning with an end in mind, as you might if setting a goal.
An intention is a statement about the purpose for your life which is open-ended, full of possibilities. It is similar to setting a sail to catch the wind while moving forward across the open water. Some days there is less wind than others, less progress. Yet each day the intention “sets the sail.” We see what changes need to be made along the course and use the rudder for steering, adjust the sails, and even get a boost from the engine from time to time.
Form an intention which has lasting power, which will expand your life’s potential . Create a statement inclusive of all life situations. According to David Whyte, writer and poet, our plans are usually too small for us to live. Form an intention big enough for personal growth and don’t limit yourself based on past experience.
Now ask your self what is most important in your life? Make a list - there may be 10-20 things or more. Categorize the list by daily activities, consider jobs, relationships, and long term plans for the next few years. What shows up in each category? Those are the BIG ones – focus your attention there.
As you set your intentions, live as if you are being guided by your hearts content. Your own awareness always knows the perfect response to every situation. Set your sail and adjust as needed. Your deepest desires are being expressed by your intention.
