Developing Solitude Relationships through Prayer and Meditation
Thursday, October 21, 2010 at 12:26AM Our fast-paced lives are full of multi-tasking, decision-making, and constant upsets. Seldom is anything as we expect it. Our family and friends are there for support, but they are experiencing more of the same. Where do we turn? Prayer and meditation can teach us how to live a more calm life, one where we can enjoy a sense of Solitude, our own personal sacred space. Prayer is a way to have a conversation with God, as we know Him. Through meditation, our minds will be quieter, so we can sense the answers to many of our questions, cutting down on the confusing decision-making. As we practice prayer and meditation each day, our lives become simpler – there is less to do, we can cease our endless movement.
As our own lives become quiet, we are present for others, forming relationships filled with solitude. We are aware our own minds are limited and know others are limited as well. How can we assist anyone? The same way we help ourselves – search out quietude, become peaceful, and experience love. Once we recognize we can be undisturbed and quiet whenever we choose, it will sustain us through all life experiences.
When other’s actions or words are distracting us from that space, we must be as tranquil as possible inside. Allow ourselves to listen to the words, and then hesitate before we reply. When our words and actions originate from solitude, we know they are for the highest good. This is how to form and grow relationships, with those we do not know well, new acquaintances and co-workers, and especially with family and friends with whom we are close.
If there is someone we do not understand or are in the midst of a troubling relationship, we can pray for clarity and meditate on the situation until it is more transparent.
